Nissan Export: Nissan to export China-made EVs globally

Must Read

Nissan Motor declared on Sunday its intention to globally distribute electric vehicles (EVs) developed in China, unveiling a collaboration with the country’s leading university to expedite research and development in the field of electrification, said a Reuters report.
The Japanese automaker is contemplating the exportation of its current lineup of internal combustion engine vehicles, along with upcoming pure electric and plug-in hybrid cars manufactured and designed in China, to international markets.Masashi Matsuyama, Vice President of Nissan Motor and President of Nissan China, disclosed this information to reporters in Beijing.
Nissan is eyeing markets that are also targeted by Chinese competitors like BYD, indicating a strategic move to tap into the global market for electric vehicles. This initiative aligns Nissan with other foreign automakers such as Tesla, BMW, and Ford, who are increasing exports of vehicles manufactured in China to leverage lower manufacturing costs and optimize factory capacity utilization.
While China represented just over 20% of Nissan’s global sales of approximately 2.8 million vehicles in the first 10 months of the year, down from over a third in the same period the previous year, the company is adapting to this challenge by exploring opportunities in the electric vehicle sector.
To bolster its presence in China, Nissan announced plans to establish a joint research center with Tsinghua University next year. The center will focus on the research and development of electric vehicles, encompassing aspects such as charging infrastructure and battery recycling. This collaboration builds upon joint research initiatives with Tsinghua University dating back to 2016, which concentrated on intelligent mobility and autonomous driving technology.
Nissan’s President and Chief Executive, Makoto Uchida, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “We hope that this collaboration will help us gain a deeper understanding of the Chinese market and develop strategies that better meet the needs of customers in China.” The move underlines Nissan’s commitment to advancing its presence in the rapidly evolving landscape of electric vehicles, particularly in the influential Chinese market.
