UC Santa Cruz workers strike over administration response to Gaza protests

Must Read

Academic workers at the University of California at Santa Cruz walked off the job Monday morning to protest the university system’s crackdown on pro-Palestinian demonstrations on campuses across the state, according to the workers’ union.

Union leaders at the Santa Cruz campus said the strike would disrupt classes, research and possibly grading in the final weeks of the school year. More than 2,000 union members — teaching assistants, researchers and postdoctoral students — have been called to participate in the work stoppage at the campus, which has roughly 20,000 students enrolled.
