Upcoming EVs with highest range in 2024: Tata Punch EV to BYD Seal

Must Read
The electric vehicle (EV) scene in India is evolving constantly, and 2024 is gearing up for some exciting launches as carmakers are prepared to expand their portfolio to heat up the competition. While some major players will debut in the EV market, others will take their next steps, preparing for the eventual transition that lies ahead. OEMs are exploring battery technologies and investing heavily in R&D to provide the Indian customers the ability to travel longer distances on one charge. Here, we take a look at some of the key EV launches of 2024 that are anticipated to arrive with high ranges.
Tata Punch EV
Earlier this year, Tata introduced the Punch compact SUV in its CNG avatar and now, the company is all set to electrify the model. The Punch EV is built upon the ALFA platform, utilizing Tata’s second-generation EV architecture, originally converted from an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) with substantial modifications.
Tata is likely to position this EV as the most budget-friendly electric SUV in India, slated below the popular Nexon EV. It is likely that the Punch EV will be available with two battery pack options: medium range and long range. The long range variant can be expected to deliver a range of up to 315 km per charge.
Maruti Suzuki eVX

Maruti will be debuting in the electric vehicle (EV) space with the eVX electric SUV, which is expected to be launched later in 2024. The model, which was first displayed at the Auto Expo 2023, has been designed from the ground up as an EV, featuring dimensions roughly comparable to its stablemate, the Grand Vitara.
The anticipated range of the eVX is around 550 km, thanks to its 60 kWh battery pack, although it is likely that the OEM will also introduce a smaller battery option for the entry-level variant.

BYD Seal

BYD Seal

Following the debut of the BYD Atto 3 in late 2022, the Chinese EV maker is set to unveil its electric sedan, the Seal, on our shores by around mid-2024. The model was first showcased in India during the Auto Expo 2023. The BYD Seal is based on the company’s e-Platform 3.0 and is equipped with two battery options: a 61.4 kWh unit and an 82.5 kWh unit.
The 61.4 kWh battery offers an estimated range of 550 km, while the larger 82.5 kWh battery provides a range of up to 700 km on a single charge. The sporty sedan gets impressive acceleration, reaching 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds.
Mahindra XUV300 EV
Mahindra is set to further intensify the competition against the Nexon EV and is gearing up for another attempt after the XUV400, with a more budget-friendly option, the XUV300 EV.
Positioned below its predecessor, the XUV300 is expected to incorporate design elements inspired by the upcoming XUV300 facelift and maintain a length of less than four meters. While the electric variant, XUV300 EV, features a 35 kWh battery—slightly smaller than the top-spec XUV400’s 40 kWh battery—detailed specifications regarding range and electric motor are currently unavailable.
Mahindra XUV e.8
Mahindra’s upcoming XUV.e8 electric SUV, part of the company’s next-gen born electric vehicle lineup, was showcased as a concept last year and has been spotted testing on Indian roads since then. It can be seen as an electric version of the popular XUV700. The XUV.e8 is expected to showcase connected tail lamps. Anticipated to house an 80 kWh battery, the SUV may offer two power outputs – 230 hp and 350 hp. There’s also speculation about a twin-motor setup, providing all-wheel-drive capability, similar to the Thar.e. While the details about range are yet to be known, it is possible that the higher-spec variant will be offered with a range of up to 450 km.
Tata Harrier/Safari EVs
Tata Motors is currently dominating the electric passenger vehicle segment in India by a margin and the company doesn’t yet seem to rest on its laurels. Having first showcased the Harrier EV at the Auto Expo in January 2023, the company is likely to bring the model to the production belt soon and on the roads in the second half of 2024.
The Harrier is likely to feature two battery pack options and may also come equipped with an all-wheel-drive system. While specific details are currently not known, we can guess that the Harrier EV, with its top-spec variant, will likely deliver 500 km on a single charge. Apart from that, there are serious speculations that the company will also introduce the electric iteration of the Safari as well.
Tata Curvv
Tata’s upcoming electric SUV, the Curvv, is set to make its debut as an electric vehicle in the middle of next year, boasting a 400-500 km range on a single charge and a dual-motor setup for all-wheel drive. While the exact details remain undisclosed, it has been indicated that the Curvv is expected to house a larger battery pack compared to the Nexon’s 30.2kWh battery.
